The Buffy Diaries 3/20/2019
Tonight I had one of the more direct Buffynicities that I can recall. I’ve had several lately but I usually don’t bother to record them. This one, however, was startling. When I moved in December my old health club charged me for another two months of membership and so I have only now joined L.A. Fitness. Yesterday (Tuesday) I bought the lock picture above for my locker at the club. I bought it because it was interesting, red in color to symbolize getting a “lock” on the first chakra, and also it doesn’t have any numbers for a combination – to open it you push the knob in a pattern to the four directions. How shamanic, I thought.
And then tonight I was working out and reading “Jerusalem” by Alan Moore, and I read the chapter in which the four “builders” are playing snooker at a great table with four pockets and the four symbols pictured above. It is a very excellent shamanic scene and the synchronicity was too powerful to ignore.
I’m having that a lot with this book. It’s really one of the best books about psychic experience I’ve read ever, which only confirms my opinion of Moore as one of the great writers on magic of the last 100 years.
It also occurs to me that this is the first day of spring with a full moon and I am preparing for C2E2 this weekend, which is one of the most powerful rituals of my year.
Buffynicity #2 I was so excited about Moore’s novel that on the way home, just twenty minutes ago or so, I was thinking about writing and how terrible the world of writing is, specifically a particularly traumatic experience I had reading a review of Rickie Lee Jones’s “The Magazine” back when it came out. I was thinking of the line “… the Lord’s face is an all night cafe, where there’s a woman who’ll wait on what you have to say”. Then when I got home, as I was getting online to write this there just happened to be an article about the 20th anniversary of her album, which had come to my inbox just a couple of hours earlier.
