Whipping off yesterday’s post at 3:25 AM the next day because I was a little drowsy on the way home at 11:30 and pulled over into the parking lot of one of the Targets that I usually visit on the way home. A cop woke me up about an hour ago, I woke up to the blinding glare of his lights as he blared his siren. It freaked me out a little and I tried to drive away but he told me to have a good night and left – just checking to see if I was alive.
Which is my second interaction with the law for the weekend as I had a date in traffic court yesterday morning, a minor traffic violation for which I pled guilty and was not convicted, leaving my driving record clean. I was very happy to be let off easy but still aware that it’s no coincidence that, even though I got the ticket way back this summer, before all the protests, this is some kind of synchronicity with both the Black Lives crisis and the presidential election.
Thursday night I reached my breaking point with those issues and started blogging about politics again, but it didn’t hit me until I was on my way to the courthouse yesterday morning that these two events – blogging and my court date – were related.
It was intimidating to face a judge in a court of law, even if it was just for traffic violations. It reminded me of the fact that, no matter what Marianne Williamson or Deepak Chopra say, American life is still a cold, unforgiving, bureaucratic life and no matter how many group hugs we all share, the bottom line in this country is still isolation, intimidation, and impersonality.
And then of course this afternoon social media was flooded with reports on Donald Trump’s comments about grabbing pussies.
I have something to say about that, but I’ll say it tomorrow (later today) because my time is up for now. A little late but I’m keeping the discipline. I feel good about it, like I’m going to get some personal resolution.
