raw material for The Darkening of the Light

(raw material to be
developed for other scenes.  a few days ago I posted some material for Victor that was very rough, and then cleaned it up the next day.  I liked how that process worked out and so I’m going to continue.  here’s a bunch of stuff mostly centering around Jennifer.)

A tear came to Jenny’s eye.
“I was twenty-three years old.  I
woke up in the driver’s seat of the van one morning and I realized that I had
no one to call, nowhere to go to call home, nothing to go back to.  Since that day my life has just been
wandering from place to place, looking for something real.”

“I wanted to be a Diamond Dog.  They were making us all of us girls into dogs
and I wanted to be a special dog, a dog that sparkled like a diamond, a dog who
never gave them anything she didn’t want to, but got what she wanted out of
them instead.”

Becky frowned, “We were different.  We saw ourselves as the heirs of death and
decay.  We had all this history around
us, but it had never amounted to anything but failure.  There wasn’t any joke to make, it was just
the end.”

“I do that too,” said Jennifer.  “It wound up there, but the original impulse
was to do something.  It was like Goth
was the burnt out wreckage of Glam.”

“Victor and I didn’t come to it through glam.  We came to it through literature, through the
failure of everything we’d been taught.
It wasn’t fun.  We needed you.”

“You needed me?” she asked, genuinely surprised.

“Yeah, I know I probably would have killed myself if it
weren’t for you.”

My soul drifted.
There was a part of my life that was drifting, and a part that had to
work, had to take everything I was doing and go make money with it, and now
that part is gone and I’m just left with the drifting.“

“Writing had something to do with consciousness, or
self-awareness.  I just believed
everybody needed to be more self-aware and then they would be better people and
society would prosper.”

“Obviously, that’s not what happens.”

“It was silly, I know.
I didn’t understand how self-awareness mostly just helps apathetic
people to be more apathetic and evil people to be more evil.”

“in a lot of ways it’s not even about self-awareness anymore.”

“Something similar happened with music.  I find music depressing now.  Just the thought of all those electronic
beats going on out there, never making a connection between anyone.  And the future is going to be worse.  Something is totally drifting inside of me,
and it can never come back.  Music was
about happiness.  I can’t get over the
loss of it.  I know I’m sick, but Goth
used to make me happy.”

“It’s the knowledge that even if anyone was paying serious
attention, no one could do anything.
There was a backdrop to individuality which isn’t there now.”

A relatively major Buffynicity which I forgot!

Buffynicity #1 (#7 I missed from the last entry)

Yesterday I got word that tickets for the Tori Amos concert in October are going on presale tomorrow.  I registered today and I was reading her press release:

“The record looks to Nature and how, through resilience, she heals herself. The songs also wrestle with the question: what is our part in the destruction of our land, as well as ourselves, and in our relationships with each other?

"In life there can be the shock of unexpected fires, floods, earthquakes, or any cataclysmic ravager – both on the inside and outside of our minds. Sonically and visually, I wanted to look at how Nature creates with her opposing forces, becoming the ultimate regenerator through her cycles of death and re-birth. Time and time again she is able to renew, can we find this renewal for ourselves?”

And then in the episode I just watched, Buffy’s mother appears to her and this conversation happens:

JOYCE
Buffy, evil isn’t coming, it’s already here. Evil is always here. Don’t you know? It’s everywhere.

BUFFY
And I have to stop it.

JOYCE
How are you gonna do that?

BUFFY
 I-I don’t know yet, but—

JOYCE
Buffy, no matter what your friends expect of you, evil is a part of us. All of us. It’s natural. And no one can stop that. No one can stop nature, not even—

So that’s pretty cool.

Buffynicity #2:

I didn’t watch Buffy tonight, I went to see West Side Story at the Music Box instead, but I was reminded of a Buffynicity I experienced this weekend, but forgot.  They were showing WSS on Sunday afternoon and I was orignally planning to go see it then, especially to see the scene where Tucker Smith as Ice sings “Cool”.  And this line was in episode 9, which I watched this weekend:

SPIKE
 (wakes) Did I hurt anybody?

BUFFY
You took a good bite out of Andrew.

SPIKE
 Who?

BUFFY
Tucker’s brother.

So that was nice.

As for transits, the Moon sextiled Uranus this morning and I was feeling pretty good about life, expecting to get my car fixed, catching up on old projects at work.  I’m trying to remember now if there was anything specific going on.  I’m really going to have to keep track of things I’m thinking about in such a way that I have something interesting to write about them later.  Actually I believe I’m doing this now, because even as I write I’m reaching into my imagination, looking for a way to talk about these preoccupations.  Right now the Darkening is on my mind a lot.  Jenny, Victor, and now Becky are looming large.  I’m trying to remember what might have been unexpected this morning other than the dark sky and the sudden heavy rain.

Then the Moon was VOC.  I got to the car dealer for my service appointment on time at 10 am and then sat in the lobby for an hour, reading Wuthering Heights, until just after the Moon entered Pisces.  That was interesting timing.  I went to ask what was going on, and to see if I could get a ride to the mall.  At first they were going to call me a shuttle but then around that time they got the report back on the leaking power steering hose that was causing the problem, so they gave me a free rental instead.  I went to the mall to eat at Red Robin, thinking about old times when I used to eat there every week.  Then I was very drowsy so I fell asleep in the parking lot.  I didn’t go back to work at all, instead focusing my my trances and listening to Diamond Dogs.  This was a very Moon-in-Pisces way to spend the evening.  Then I drove home and stopped at the library to pick up some things and headed right back out to see West Side Story, which was truly magnificent.

I’m feeling the ghost of Natalie Wood around a lot now.  I’m very happy she’s here.

I was going to get Tori Amos tickets tonight but the presale code I got from Ticketmaster is only good for balcony seats.  More Piscean ho-hum.  I’m going to be lazy for the next couple of days.  I predict I’ll get my car back Friday, when the Moon goes into Aries.

So I’ve had Allyson Hannigan or Juliet Landau playing Becky, and I wonder if I should have Natlie playing her now?

The Moon is inconjuncting Mercury and conjuncting Neptune tomorrow while I’m downtown.  I predict some good psychic clarity.  It’s funny how deeply I’m feeling the Pisces Moon, not giving a damn about anything I’m writing.  I need to let myself go and drift right now.

Really I need to find some kind of anchor for this watery energy of psychic immersion, something to spin it around so it works out to a more entertaining blog.  But now I’m going to go do some work on the Darkening.

Natalie is definitely here, however, and I feel I need to mark this date for future reference.  She’s going to bring me a lot of answers.  I think this goes back to the early 80s when her movie “Brainstorm” was on HBO and I watched it over and over again.  I think her spirit saw me then.

I was about to post this but then I had some more intuitions about the wateriness of Pisces and what to do with it.  Give up trying to express it, for one thing.  Or it’s just some kind of change, some kind of presence.  God damn I’m running right up against this wall.  The spirit presence is here and I have to do something with it.
