The Buffy Diaries 7-9-2017

Buffynicity #1:  Today I was down in Edgewater and I picked up some comics from the fifty-cent bin, including a few of Seargeant Rock because in a recent episode Xander had mentioned Sergeant Rock as a favorite character.  Then tonight Xander was talking about being in the army:

XANDER
No, in his head. It’s a trigger. It’s a brainwashing term. It’s how the military makes sleeper agents. They-they brainwash operatives and condition them with a specific trigger, like a song, that makes ‘em drastically change at a moment’s notice.

WILLOW
Is this left over from your days in the Army?

XANDER
No, this is left over from every Army movie I’ve ever seen. But it makes sense. We’ve had ghosts or something haunting us, right? Well, what if Spike’s ghosts have figured out a way to—not only haunt him—what if they figured out how to—how to control him?

Definitely a Buffynicity because I wouldn’t have bought those comics if it weren’t for Xander.

Buffynicity #2

In the last few days I’ve been thinking about my character Jennifer pretty constantly, and repeating to myself my joke that (since this is a gothic romance) I’m going to wring as much blood out of her as I can before I toss her limp, broken body into the sea.  I’ve posted that joke here on my blog before.  I’ve written a few scenes from the Darkening on my blog, and in all of them the women cry.  Then in tonight’s episode:

BUFFY
(crosses arms) Believe me, I’m well aware of what you’re capable of.

SPIKE
No, you got off easy too. (stands) Do you know how much blood you can drink from a girl before she’ll die? I do. You see, the trick is to drink just enough to know how to damage them just enough so that they’ll still cry when you— (chokes up) ’cause it’s not worth it if they don’t cry.

Buffynicity #2:

This weekend I was thinking of literary comparisons for my characters, and I was thinking of Victor as Oliver Twist and Jennifer as the Artful Dodger, from Dickens.  Then in yesterday’s episode:

 INT.     BUFFY’S KITCHEN – DAY
BUFFY
(to phone) You don’t have to get all British and dodgy, Mr. Travers. I know you have ways of finding him.

So that British slang term “dodgy” is the Buffynicity here.

Buffynicity #3:

Of course Jennifer is a “moppet”, which is a kind of doll, and one of the last scenes I wrote included the character “Becky” who is a fan of Siouxsie and the Banshees.  They have a song called “Voodoo Dolly” and in the scene Victor wonders whether Becky has been making voodoo dolls of him.  I’ve been repeating that line to myself quite a bit.  Then in tonight’s episode was this bit of dialogue from Drusilla, who is played by Juliet Landau, one of the actresses I often see as a possibility for Becky, although really my main choice is Allyson Hannigan.

DRUSILLA/FIRST
Kick a dolly when he’s down. That was always your style.

Buffynicity #4:

Today in Edgewater one of the other comics I bought was Starslayer episode #3.  Starslayer was the comic where Grimjack first appeared.  Grimjack is one of my favorite comics, and I was thinking of a line from that, from the climax of the war around issue 20.  There’s a god in that story and he’s complaining that his lover is dead.  John Gaunt tells him “dig a hole and put her in it."  This is one of the most memorable lines from comics from my youth, I think of it often.

Then tonight:

44     EXT.     DESOLATE OIL RIG SITE – NIGHT
His work area lit by the headlights of his SUV, Principal Wood is digging a hole. He stops, and rolls Jonathan’s body into the shallow grave and throws dirt over him.

So it’s interesting because the principal is possessed by "the First”, a kind of dark god, and this god had appeared as Jonathan’s lover from season 6.  So this is really related.

I still wish I could communicate the urgency of experiencing these things, but it’s enough to record them.  Now I’m going on to aspects for the weekend.

Even though there were some minor hangups, the Moody lecture went well.  Moon sextiling Neptune at 5:05 PM.  He was running long and I was sitting in the lobby listening to him and feeling very accomplished at assimilating what his soul had to show me.  It had been a terribly busy day but I had managed to survive it and stay cool and my perceptions of the spirit world were enhanced dramatically.  At 5:45 the Moon was squaring Jupiter and I was a little uptight because there was so much cleanup to do and I was also feeling a bit strange because I read Dr. Moody’s book in the late 70s and it was like some kind of full circle for me, but it also made me feel very alienated from the world (feeling out-of-joint was related to the square).  It was busy and unfocused and yet rewarding and I know there is a lot of new information to think about.  Despite a lot of logisitical headaches, the psychic package was delivered.  I am now able to allow my angels to take over and guide the whole process.  I can see their precious faces so clearly.  And I know that The Darkening is a true magical working.

When the Moon opposed the Sun and conjuncted Pluto I had just been at a ritual and I was receiving just that sort of information that I’ve come to associate with Pluto – things about society and my role of it, the role of magic in human relationships.  I made a couple of new connections which made me feel better and gained some deeper insights into the role of money and career in the extended archetypes of magical pursuits.  I saw different sides of people I’ve known for a long time and felt rewarded in my own gradual economic progression.

I was hoping to make it through the Capricorn Moon without incident, but no such luck.  I had minor car trouble, which is fortunately covered by warranty.  I can get it fixed free of charge tomorrow but still it is trouble on the physical plane, specifically car trouble, during the Capricorn Moon, and after the orginal wreck had happened during the last Capricorn Moon.  So that’s a lot for me to think about.  However the trouble was minor and now it’s almost over.

But in order to deal with that issue I had to drop off the IANDS books this morning, which I was doing when the Moon opposed Mars.  It didn’t feel too bad for me.  I was taking care of business, making plans for tomorrow.  It was a headache though.  I’m trying to figure out what it meant other than that the day has felt very rushed and I’m a little out of sorts even though I’m getting fantastic visions of the higher planes, and feeling like someone qualified to make that claim publicly now.  It’s really like a full moon.  I suppose I also felt a little rush of self-satisfication in having dealt with the obstacles in my path with such proficiency.  Everything is going pretty smoothly, after all.

Surprise, surprise I just caught up with myself and realized that the Moon squares Uranus in ten minutes, and then goes VOC.

9:13 PM 7/9/2017  So I waited for it to happen, and wound up hearing David Bowie’s “Blue Jean” in my head.  I’ll have to remember that while I work on the Darkening as we roll up to the Moon sextiling Chiron in about an hour, and the Sun opposing Pluto at 11:30.

I’m definitely going to try to focus the energy of the Darkening on Chiron, and vice versa.  And I’m also gaining some insights tonight about fluidity and my various food and drink addictions or compulsions, which I am going to start writing about soon.

But now I’m just going to make predictions for tomorrow and work on the Darkening.

Moon in Aquarius will be a bit more fun than Moon in Capricorn, although this Moon in Capricorn was not so bad as the last, and I now feel I can prepare for future such moons and make them go easily.  Moon trining Venus in the afternoon, with the runup to seeing Raymond Moody again tomorrow night, should bring something really big for me.  I may be sitting with my car as it’s reparied, finishing Wuthering Heights.  Moon opposes Mercury at 5:38.  I’ll be heading home to see Moody.  It seems like there’s going to be something exciting and also grounding in the sense that my angels are coming through more clearly.

It will be a big day.  The moon is VOC now so I’m not going to try to find a point to it.
