I had several Buffynicities, which was nice, including the most telepathic one yet. As I was getting ready to go run, walking down the stairs, putting on my shoes, stretching, I began thinking about the word “Looney”, writing a comedy dialogue in my mind about how I have come to use the word since hanging out in Canada, where the one dollar coin is called a “Looney” because it has a picture of a loon on it. I added some other jokes and when I got to the club to run, almost immediately Buffy went to her psychologist (who was dead) and told him that he would probably think she was a candidate “for the looney bin”. So there was a Buffynicity that took less than 15 minutes to come off. They’re getting faster!
Then I realized that the Scooby Gang reading “Call of the Wild” was a reference to the Valkyrie name “Kara”, which means “Wild, Stormy One”, and it was probably Kara I was thinking of when I listened to “Wild One” years ago, and I was also thinking of the song “Wild Child” by Lou Reed a couple of nights ago.
There was another Buffynicity because there was a full moon in the episode, and there is a full moon this weekend that I was just noticing has some powerful aspects (discussed in the next entry).
In a recent post I wrote about assigning a Scooby girl to each of my angels. Kara is Cordelia. And I also wrote how much Cordelia reminds me of my biggest high school crush. That girl was homecoming queen one year, and so it is a Buffynicity that right after I wrote that I watched an episode in which Cordelia is running for homecoming queen. The dynamic between Buffy and Cordelia in this episode is also very illuminating of the dynamic between Cordelia and the angel I think of as Buffy.
Working at these two outlying sites this week, I’ve been having to use a lot of old phones because the sites were given to us only because they’re obsolete and mostly unused. So it was Buffynicitous that the conspirators in the show were using antiquated phones and other equipment to spy on Buffy. The two German drones with their tech-freak overlord also reminded me of my brother and his creepy friends spying on me for their sex-freak overlord (back when this show was first airing, actually).
The first episode I watched was about the “inner beast” of men, and then the second was about Cordelia getting angry, and so this is all following the theme of Kara making her presence known. A very excellent timing for Mars entering Taurus.
