Awesome Buffynicities abounding.  Tonight was Anya’s first episode.  At first, I was thinking that Anya might be Irish because her magical pendant is Green, but I guess not.  Still that was a cool thing two days before Saint Patrick’s Day. But the real thing is this:

Anyanka is an ancient female demon, and this episode is a totally “Matrix” episode – Matrix meaning “Mother” and being related to the sphere of Saturn, mother of the waters, and the action movie which has been in the news for the last couple of days, related to Cordelia’s impalement.

Cordelia was also burning old pictures in a fire at the beginning of the episode, recalling the fire from previous episodes.

Because of the Matrix references yesterday I was willing to accept the dark “false reality” and the leather-clad “alternate personalities” as a major Matrix reference.  (Alyson Hanigan is totally hot as a vampire, btw).  Also the Master sitting in a Morpheus chair, which I had been thinking about in great detail today, especially on the way home during the Mars/Mercury aspects.  But then I finished running and stopped right when the Master was announcing his adoption of “mass production” techniques and that nailed it shut because the Matrix referred to Baudrillard and the concept of “simulation” which is directly related to consumer products.  So this is really a totally Matrixed-out episode which was made years before “Matrix: Revolutions” when the impalement happened, and I think even a year before the first movie.  Someone in the episode was even joking about all the leather.

There were also a couple of minor phrases that recurred.  Today with all the references to electricity I was thinking about “utilities”, I actually used the word, and it was in the episode. 

The finding of the playlist with Iron Fist only a couple of days after the Glove of Minagon episode was pretty wild.  Furthermore I know I stopped tonight’s episode at the perfect place because when I first got to the club my Body Glove tablet case (I mention that only because of the “Glove” reference) was blocking my headphones from working, which was especially a pain in the ass because I was the only one in the front room so the attendant was playing some dance music extremely loud and I couldn’t hear anything.  it took ten minutes to straighten all that shit out – and I did in fact fix the messed up case right at the same time the attendant got the hint and turned the music down.  So I knew it was “arranged”.

Another Buffynicity was that I was listening to “Iron Horse” on the way to the club and there was a conversation about horses in there.

 All this does raise an issue of “what might have been”, just as the episode is about a Sunnydale where Buffy never lived.  I’ve often felt my life didn’t work out the way it was supposed to. Actually, listening to Motorhead today I was really wondering what life would have ben like if I’d been in a band with Jody.  I was thinking she would have wanted to sing “Overkill”.  What would my life have been if I had recognized Kara sooner?  Was there anyone out there I was supposed to meet that I didn’t?  Who knows?

I do know, however, that Kara is kicking ass.  I mean, this is amazing, that yesterday’s episode would be evoking “Matrix: Revolutions” and then today’s episode would be so totally “Matrixy”, even though they were made before the movies – and at the same time that all these rumours about a Matrix reboot would appear on the web.
